Developed in Collaboration With The Melbourne Meditation Centre

When you want a great coffee - you go to your favourite café. When you want to learn how to meditate - you go to the people who know.

So to create an amazing meditation course that goes beyond rote learning a meditation script, I went straight to the big guns - Matt from The Melbourne Meditation Centre.

Matt has spent decades studying and teaching meditation. He set up The Melbourne Meditation Centre in 2005 and continues to teach about 1000 students per year. In the process he has developed an understanding of the common pitfalls and difficulties beginners to meditation encounter. More importantly, he has learnt how to teach meditation in a practical, down-to-earth style, free of confusing jargon or dogma.

Why choose this course?

So, you've heard that meditation is good for you. You've looked into the research that says it helps with anxiety and depression, promotes better sleep, keeps you healthy in body and mind, enables you to manage stress and focus better, as well as to think creatively, relax at will and calm an overactive mind.

In other words, you are convinced that you should meditate, but:

  • You don't know where to start
  • You don't have the time (or discipline)
  • You can't sit cross-legged (and get restless, agitated or scared when you close your eyes or have to sit still)
  • You can't switch off your mind
  • You've tried it before and found it boring (or fell asleep, or didn't 'get' it, or couldn't work out what you were meant to be doing, or just found that nothing much happened)
  • You already meditate but wish you could go deeper
  • You were warned off it by some friendly minister who insisted that meditation is blasphemous and evil (yes, that does happen!)

This online meditation course allows you to learn how to meditate from the comfort of your own home, with access to a wealth of information and everything you need to make learning meditation easy and enjoyable.

The course presents meditation in a simple, practical manner free of extraneous beliefs, jargon or dogma. You won’t have to adopt a new philosophy or change your beliefs or lifestyle. And instead of introducing you just to the techniques of one particular tradition we'll explain and guide you through meditations of all kinds. This gives you the opportunity to find out what works best for you.

More importantly, you'll be taught the 'mechanics' of meditation — how and why it actually works. This gives you the freedom to adapt meditation to your own unique temperament, lifestyle and needs. When you understand the principles behind meditation you don't need to force or discipline yourself to meditate — you can adjust the technique to suit yourself.

The course is divided into six weeks, But you can go faster, or slower, if you want to. You'll get a comprehensive guide to meditation which aims to teach you the necessary skills from the ground up. You'll also have access to a range of guided meditations which you can listen to or download. You'll be introduced to spot meditations which you can use to de-stress wherever you are (in as little as 30 to 60 seconds), as well as formal practices designed for deeper relaxation, better health and self awareness.

Should you have questions about — or challenges with — any of the exercises, you can email myself directly for support. And once you've completed the six weeks, you'll have everything you need to continue meditating on your own.

I imagine that you'll be surprised at just how easy it is to learn to meditate, partly because the course will show you how to easily overcome the common difficulties meditators experience, and also because the lessons are designed to take you step by step, from short and easy foundation practices, through to the tried and tested techniques that can lead to all the benefits listed above.

You won't be required to sit for hours on end, or to master any esoteric practices, nor will you be required to empty your mind of thought or to decipher vague and complicated instructions. If you can breathe, or enjoy listening to a piece of music, you have all the skills needed to benefit.

Who is the course for?

  • You are new to meditation and want an easy way to learn
  • You’ve been trying to meditate on your own without success
  • You already meditate but want to go deeper
  • You want a natural approach – you don’t want to have to rely on binaural beats, subliminal suggestion or other technology to manipulate your brainwaves
  • You want to learn to meditate, rather than to adopt a new religion or join a cult
  • You want clear instruction rather than pop-psychology and wishful thinking

What do you get?

  • Simple, clear, step-by-step instructions
  • An audio recording of each lesson, so if you don't like to read, no worries!
  • The background information necessary to develop a clear understanding of what meditation is as well as how and why it works
  • A wide range of guided meditations that you can listen to and download
  • Extensive written material to help you verify your experience and answer questions
  • Simple methods to settle your mind into a natural state of ease and contentment.
  • Mindfulness exercises to help you to remain calm and balanced throughout the day
  • Strategies for letting go of physical and mental tension.
  • Tips on how to easily overcome the common difficulties meditators experience
  • Opportunities to reflect on your progress and learn from your own experiences

Available to you online 24/7, this course can be done anytime and anywhere that is convenient for you.

The course is comprised of lessons across six weeks, each of which will probably take you about 90-120 minutes to complete, and provides a comprehensive introduction to meditation.

Psychologist

Scott Waters

Hi!From an early age I knew I wanted to do something with my life that allowed me to help other people smile and enrich their experience of life. From supporting friends through difficult times, to helping neighbours get cats out of trees, I've always taken an interest in those around me and wanted to help them be as happy as they can. And now, with a little addition in my life in the form of my son, the vulnerability of life has never been more apparent to me. Soak it up. Enjoy it. Live it. Treasure each moment as you never know what's going to happen. It makes sense that I have become a Psychologist. It was either that or a magician, and my sleight of hand isn't that great. I now have over 14 years experience working with people from amazingly diverse walks of life. From workshops to one-on-one sessions, from being in a room to walking in a park, I am extremely fortunate to have people let me into their lives to give them a hand. Together we have been able to crush adversity and barriers and squeeze the most out of life. Over the past few years I have also completed my 200-hour training to become a Level I Yoga Instructor. I know, a long way to go but life is a journey. I love learning and discovering more about myself, the human body and our experience as people. The mind-body connection has such potential to either lift us towards a healthy sense of well being, or to provide a slippery downward spiral into despair. Through yoga we are able to work on the mind through meditation and the body through postures and sequences. These are skills that don't need to be complicated, and can be nurtured in anyone. My approach is practical, down-to-earth and fun. In these online courses my aim is to demystify things where needed, to be totally useful and practical by teaching you skills that you can use right away, and to make it easy to learn and do. I hope you enjoy the courses that I've created as much as I enjoyed creating them for you :)Take care,Scottwww.scottwaterspsychology.com.auInstagram @thebarefootpsychologistFacebook @thebarefootpsychologist

This course is jam-packed with information! At first it seemed like A LOT of reading, but then I realised there are voice recordings for each lesson! So much easier. I just load it on my ipod and listen on my way to work. So much more than just meditations. Highly recommend this course for anyone wanting to learn about meditation from the inside out.
